Our other meeting thread has been around since July and it has several pages, so I thought it would be sensible to make a new thread for a new meeting that is specificially for the preparations of the MFF World Cup 2008. It should also ensure everything decided in the other topic is here on the first page for all to see.
So, for those of you who aren't yet aware of what we have decided, I'll recap;
The 2008 Micronational World Cup will;
-Be in either July or August of 2008
-Be held in Yorkshire*
-Be a 5-aside tournament
-Charge nations competing a small fee of £35, (£5 per player + £10 registration fee), that shall go towards the trophy/medal and venue costs
The requirements for entry into the MFF will be;
-To have at least 5 shirts of the same colour along with at least 5 bibs/different coloured shirts in the case of a need to change 'kit'.
Whilst looking back through the other meeting's topic, I noticed an idea put forward by Lewis that we may have overlooked;
This may be an idea, and if we were to do it this way we would allow nations to put in a 'bid' to host the world cup. This would mean that the nation 'bidding' would find a suitable venue in their area (Say within 30 miles of their home?) and pay for it. The obvious advantage to hosting it is easy access, and therefore nations may be willing to pay a small fee in order to compete. There is also the advantage of having publicity and having a larger say in the actual venue and layout of the tournament. The bids would then be reviewed by the MFF members, and we would decide whom to give the host status to.
Any thoughts on this?
I'd also like to bring up the following;
-Should we look to an outdoor location (A suitable grass field) to hold the tournament, which would have the obvious advantages of cost effictiveness and having alot more space than that of a hall. This would mean we would be able to allow a large number of spectators, which would add nicely to the atmosphere. It's also more traditional with it being played on grass.
-A name for the trophy - To raise further funds should we look to micronational sponsors for the trophy? Alternatively we could decide upon a suitable name among ourselves.
-Micronational journalists - What are your opinions on inviting a micronational journalist to cover the day?
-Should we look to print amateur programmes (A simple A4 booklet) for spectators at the event? That outlines the fixtures, information on the team and nations themselves, and also several interviews and feature articles, we could then offer adverts in there.
-A deadline for member nations to register
-Any other thoughts?
If you are looking to compete in the tournament please ensure you have registered in the thread below;
